Large Scale Infrared-Based Remote Sensing of Turbulence Metrics in Surface Waters: Going Beyond Mean Flow

نویسندگان

چکیده

In recent years field-scale applications of image-based velocimetry methods, often referred to as large scale particle image (LSPIV), have been increasingly deployed. These measurements several advantages—they allow high resolution, non-contact measurement surface velocity over a two dimensional area, from which the bulk flow can be inferred. However, visiblelight LSPIV methods significant limitations. The water lacks natural features that tracked in visible and generally requires seeding with tracer particles, creates concerns regarding fidelity particles track flow, introduces challenges achieving sufficient uniform density, particular regions appreciable accelerations such turbulence. LSPIV, collection is limited daylight hours, suffer non-uniformity illumination across camera’s field view. Due these issues spatio-temporal averaging, result able extracting mean, but not instantaneous, field, hence suitable tool for calculating turbulence metrics flow.

Remote Sensing of Tidal Situation by Monitoring Changes in Suspended Sediment Concentration in Surface Waters

Collecting information on suspended sediments concentration (SSC) in coastal waters and estuaries is vital for proper management of coastal environments. Traditionally, SSC used to be measured by time consuming and costly point measurements. This method allows the accurate measurement of SSC only for a point in space and time. Remote sensing from air-borne and space-borne sensors have proved to...

Detecting Surface Waters Using Data Fusion of Optical and Radar Remote Sensing Sensor

Identification and monitoring of surface water using remote sensing have become very important in recent decades due to its importance in human needs and political decisions. Therefore, surface water has been studied using remote sensing systems and Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 sensors in this study. In this paper, two data fusion approaches and decision fusion improve the accuracy of surface wate...

Advances in thermal infrared remote sensing for land surface modeling

Over 10 years ago, John Norman and co-authors proposed a thermal-based land surface modeling strategy that treated the energy exchange and kinetic temperatures of the soil and vegetated components in a unique ‘‘Two-Source Model’’ (TSM) approach. The TSM formulation addresses key factors affecting the convective and radiative exchange within the soil–canopy–atmosphere system, focusing on the rel...

Large-scale energy spectra in surface quasi-geostrophic turbulence

is studied. The nonlinear transfer of this system conserves the two quadratic quantities Ψ1 = 〈[(−∆) ψ]〉/2 and Ψ2 = 〈[(−∆) ψ]〉/2 (kinetic energy), where 〈·〉 denotes a spatial average. The energy density Ψ2 is bounded and its spectrum Ψ2(k) is shallower than k in the inverse-transfer range. For bounded turbulence, Ψ2(k) in the low-wavenumber region can be bounded by Ck where C is a constant inde...
